The original Alien is one of those miraculous blends where the characterisation, writing, thematic resonance, and sheer visceral thrills are all top-notch and combine into one near-perfect whole.
As we learned not long ago from another near-perfect slice of cinematic heaven, Mad Max: Fury Road, a good set of storyboards can often be the first step towards creating a masterpiece, and the original storyboards done for Alien — drawn by Scott himself — are gorgeous. Seeing as he has a a diploma in design and studied at Royal College of Art I guess we shouldn’t be surprised:
