‘Tripod’ is an ostensibly 80/90-ish-year old Australian croc (the only reliable age records are from zoos and farms where saltwater crocs, captured already as adults, have been kept for over 50 years). He’s called that because he’s only got three legs. He’s also an absolute unit of a dinosaur, measuring 17 feet in length and weighing one tonne. Here’s NetGeo’s Monster Croc Wrangler presenter Matt Wright feeding him, with just the best summary of the adorable sentient jaws of death tank machine that emerges from his swampy realm: ‘He’s a good boy but he would eat me in a heartbeat (chuckles in Australian).’

Fun fact! Saltwater crocs (or ‘salties’) regularly grow to 7 metres (22 feet) in length, so while Tripod is colossal in weight he’s not even in the upper percentile of saltie length.
