GIF OUT! Youtube Embeds Its Own GIF Generator

Friends, we’ve come into a bold new age of GIFs. No longer do you need to understand Photoshop. Gone are the days of searching endlessly through Tumblr for your wished for form of looping expression. And banished are the requirements for random apps or watermarking generator pages to create gifs from Youtube videos. Why? Because Youtube has just gotten into the GIF game by creating a generator of their very own.

Tech Crunch tipped us off this thrilling addition to Youtube’s “share” options. The GIF up top was pulled from the latest episode of PBS’s Idea Channel webseries, using the generator tool screencapped below:

It’s stupid easy to use. Just click Share, then GIF. Select your in and out points by either manipulating the handles or typing in your selected timecode. If you want to add text do so in the boxes provided. Click “Create New GIF” and voila! This gem of a generator gives you an embed code, or a link which can be used for the good old “download to your desktop” option. Plus, there’s a bunch of buttons allowing you to share to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and so on.

Not every video has the generator option yet. It seems this will be a gradual roll-out. But do celebrate with us by sharing your fave GIFS in comments.
