Bleeding Cool is reporting, based on “well sourced comic book film insiders” in the New York bar scene heading into New York Comic Con, that the budget for the two Avengers: Infinity Wars films has now reached $1 billion, which sounds crazy until you realize that the last two Avengers films made almost $3 billion at the box-office alone (before streaming, Blu-ray and merchandise is accounted for).
The $1 billion figure also reportedly includes marketing and promotion for the film. The more interesting note here is that $400 million of the $1 billion has been earmarked for the directors, screenwriters, and acting talent.
The mind-boggling number, however, is $200 million, which has apparently been set aside for Robert Downey, Jr. alone. The man is going to make $200 million to be a part of a giant superhero ensemble.
In other words, Timothy Olyphant — who lost out to Robert Downey, Jr. for the role of Iron Man — would need to film 307 seasons of Justified to make as much money as RDJ will make for two films. Literally.
