Disney Continues To Milk Marvel Like The Cash Cow It Is: 'Guardians' Gets A Cartoon Series
I suppose I’m okay with the Disney/Marvel unholy alliance. It brings us excellent movies, big stars, (some)amazing things to buy, and the off-chance that Deadpool could bang a Disney princess. That said, there are also less enjoyable consequences. These include Disney shows, such as Phineas and Ferb and Jessie, doing crossover episodes with Marvel heroes. The Disney XD channel also seems to crank out an unending glut of animated Marvel superhero series, unconcerned with quality or over-saturation.
So really, what’s one more Marvel series?
Announced in 2014, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be joining Disney XD’s popular Marvel Universe block of animated shows later this year. Behold the test footage!
So far, only Groot and Rocket have been cast. “I am Groot” will soon be uttered by Kevin Michael Richardson (Teen Titans Go!, Gravity Falls, and more). Rocket will be voiced by Trevor Devall (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Wolverine vs Sabretooth, and more). Both actors have previously portrayed their respective characters in other Marvel/Disney cartoons.
Given that Marvel’s Agents of S.M.A.S.H. makes me want to crumple the satellite dish into a ball that I can then use to destroy the television, I’m not terribly excited for this show. I am, however, open to the possibility that it could be 12% as engaging and entertaining as the movie.
