I don’t follow politics enough to be that familiar with Utah Republican Representative Jason Chaffetz. The first I’d heard of his name was last week, when he announced that he was making play to become the new House Speaker after John Boehner steps down, competing with Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California (who was Boehner’s deputy).
I don’t know what Chaffetz’s chances are of beating out McCarthy, but after John Oliver shat all over him last night, I can’t imagine his bid won’t take a hit.
The four-minute clip takes aim at the Secret Service for endeavoring to embarrass Jason Chaffetz by revealing that the Utah representative attempted — and failed — to join the Secret Service. Oliver then wonders why the Secret Service would risk scandal by embarrassing Chaffetz. “If you want to embarrass Jason Chaffetz, just wait and he will do it for you.”
