So how’s everyone here feel about abortion?
Sorry, that might have been a bit blunt. It’s early on a Monday, and you probably don’t want to contemplate too deeply a topic as complex as abortion. Even ardent supporters of abortion rights like myself understand that it’s a difficult topic to discuss. Luckily, as this segment from Last Week Tonight shows, people are actually able to hold conflicting views on what’s right for them versus what’s right for everyone.
Unluckily, state governments are making sure to fuck up every other part of the abortion process.
Basically abortion providers need to make sure that they’re following all of the restriction placed on their clinics. In order to protect women. The same way that women need to make sure to follow all of the state laws in order to end their pregnancy. And I guess to an extent that makes sense. If women can’t follow the laws and restrictions legally implemented, then they just can’t have that abortion. Much like how state legislators, having lost both the Supreme Court ruling and popular opinion on abortion, DON’T GET TO LEGISLATE ABORTION OUT OF EXISTENCE. Yeah, states with laws that place undue burden on abortion providers, your hypocrisy is showing. You don’t want any underhanded, shady dealings with medical professionals providing care to women. So instead you put all of the underhanded, shady dealings into your fucking abortion laws.
The hard part about knowing about this bullshit is that there’s very little to be done unless you live in a state with a proposed law restricting abortion. The easy part is that the restrictions fall apart under any level of scrutiny. These assholes might still look us in the eye and lie about their motivations, but at least we get to call them out on their bullshit.
