We human meatbags like to think we’re so sophisticated that we’ve moved past the primal fears of our dumb caveman brains. But there’s moments where your drive to survive gets all hyped up even as your 2017 brain is yelling at it, “Calm the fuck down! This is totally safe, dummy!” I experienced this heady mix of emotions last fall when I went to Toronto and stood on the glass floor of the CN Tower.
Rising 1,122 ft over the Canadian city, this transparent floor is super safe, boasting many layers of annually tested glass. So you can stand on what seems to be nothing, and look down for stories upon stories. And as you do, your brain is like “this is neat,” while your blood pressure is like “WHY WHAT HOW STOP THIS SHIT RIGHT NOW! WE’RE GOING TO DIE!”
Now let’s take this clear floor concept to an even swankier setting: a glass bottom pool stories high in Houston’s Market Square Tower. Warning: this video is SFW but less safe for your fragile sense of calm.
Even though I know I’m just watching a video, my heart pounds hard as if I’m the risk-taker in the glass-bottom pool overlooking a less than glamorous portion of Houston. I mean, we’ve all seen Archer, right? We know this is totally Danger Zone.
