Powerful Hollywood People Caught Up in Trump Tape Conspiracy, Says Tom Arnold, And Why Are We Listening to Tom Arnold?

Do you ever have the feeling, even fleetingly, that it’s not Trump and his supporters, but the rest of us who are suffering from the Dunning-Kruger effect? Like, maybe we’re wrong? Maybe we’ve been wrong all along. Maybe Obama — who brought the economy from the brink of collapse to an unemployment rate of less than 5 percent, who added 20 million to the insurance rolls, and who spent eight years as the only adult in the room — is really not that great. Maybe we’re all suffering from illusory superiority, and maybe Donald Trump is the real deal. Maybe there’s some method to his madness. Maybe the Washington Post and the NYTimes are huge sources of fake news, and what we think are grand conspiracy theories about Obama having Scalia killed and that he’s an agent of Satan are actually accurate.

What if Alex Jones is right, and the rest of us are wrong?

The reason why I’m afraid I am suffering from the Dunning-Kruger effect is because right now, Tom Arnold makes sense to me, or at least, he’s saying things that I want to believe, or that I’m inclined to believe. Sure, there’s a nagging thought in the back of my mind that this is all conspiracy theory insanity — and having doubt about one’s beliefs rules out the Dunning-Kruger effect — but when Tom Arnold suggested on Twitter a Watergate-level conspiracy theory levels deep regarding Trump and the Apprentice tape, I’m inclined to believe him.

It’s because I’m crazy, right?

Remember last week when Tom Arnold made news by saying that he had a tape of Donald Trump saying the n-word, the c-word, calling his son “retarded,” etc., and that he and several people in Hollywood have seen the tape, but that no one would release it because they didn’t want to get some low-level producer on The Apprentice sued? Well, Michael Rapaport — a fine enough actor who no one should be taking their cues from — called Tom Arnold out on that, and Arnold had to explain himself to Rapaport on Twitter.

Well, apparently, Michael Rapaport did call Tom Arnold, and whatever transpired over the course of that conversation convinced Rapaport that Arnold was the real deal.

Are you like, “What did Arnold tell Rapaport?” “Who are these 7 Hollywood players?” What’s going on here? Where’s the conspiracy? What does Arnold know? Are these Watergate-level journalists about to take Trump down?

WELL STOP IT.

This is Tom Arnold we’re talking about! His politics are in the right place, but Tom Arnold is a bit of a loon.

Or is he?

Meanwhile, Michael Rapaport and his son got into a Twitter fight with a troll last night, and Michael told his son to call the cops after the troll said his dogs were using Google maps to come to the son’s house and kill him.

In other words, let’s be careful about where we take our cues.

But also, Hollywood conspiracy? Tell me more, Tom Arnold!
