What Do We Think Is Going On in 'The Drama' Trailer?

The trailer for The Drama starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya was released today. A24, the studio behind the film, is pulling out all the stops, including running a fake engagement announcement in yesterday’s Boston Globe. As for what The Drama is about? “Days before their wedding, a couple’s relationship is shaken when one partner discovers unsettling truths about the other.”

What does that mean? What’s the unsettling truth? Did one partner cheat? Did one partner forget to mention that his father is the wealthy owner of a company that put the other out of business?

Somehow, I don’t think it’s going to be that innocuous. It’s an A24 film. They pulled out the big guns in Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. It comes from Norwegian film director Kristoffer Borgli (the twisted nightmare fuel Dream Scenario), and the big red flag (or green flag, depending on your tastes): producer Ari Aster.

So no, this isn’t going to be a sweet romantic comedy, but I love that it’s an original movie that’s not even based on a book from which we can glean spoilers. The trailer gives nothing away, which means we can all enjoy the idea of watching The Drama spoiler-free until about two weeks before its release, when reviews come out, details leak, and social media ruins it all. But we’ve got until April to remain blissfully unaware!

The Drama opens in theaters on April 3rd.
