There were a lot of people born at a certain time whose attractions to women were likely formed by The Fall Guy, which starred both Heather Thomas and Markie Post. Like Janet and Chrissy on Three’s Company, you were attracted to one or the other. There was no in-between. I was a Markie Post and Janet kid. I loved The Fall Guy, but mostly I loved that theme song, “Unknown Stuntman,” performed by the series’ star, Lee Majors. It’s still good.
The theme song does not figure into the trailer for the Ryan Gosling iteration. In fact, aside from the title, the character names, and the premise (sort of), the movie doesn’t appear to have much in common with the TV series. In the show, Lee Majors was a stuntman, but he also moonlit as a bounty hunter. Here, Ryan Gosling is hired basically to find the star of the movie upon which he works as a stuntman. Emily Blunt, whose character name is Jody (the same as Heather Thomas’s), is the director of the film. Theresa Palmer is also here, probably as a nod to Markie Post’s character. Lee Majors will apparently have a cameo, too, because he’s still alive, which is insane to me because I assumed he was in his 50s when the original series ran.
The film comes from David Leitch, the guy behind John Wick, Bullet Train, and Deadpool 2. The best thing about the trailer, however, is that Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” figures heavily into it.
The Fall Guy comes out in March. What do you think? Blunt and Gosling almost have that Gosling/Russell Crowe energy from The Nice Guys in the trailer, although the writing certainly falls short of Shane Black. That Hannah Waddingham wig, however, is inexcusable.
