Watch the Trailer for 'Deep Water,' the Psychosexual Thriller that Brought Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas Together

I read Patricia Highsmith’s novel Deep Water last year, and I will concede that I wasn’t a huge fan. Notwithstanding the novel’s influence on Gillian Flynn, it’s a ’50s novel, and even though I picked it up because I knew about this particular adaptation, I couldn’t picture it in a modern setting with Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas.

The story, however, is ripe for a guy like Adrian Lyne, known for his deeply unsettling, sexualized psychological dramas (9½ Weeks, Lolita, Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal). I don’t know how much the guy has left in the tank — this is his first movie in 20 years — but the trailer looks like you might expect a 2022 Adrian Lyne film to look: A f**ked up, sexualized psychological thriller. That it also brought Affleck and Ana de Armas together, which filled our celebrity gossip quota during the pandemic, is merely a bonus.

I wonder if these two will be doing any press together? We could use that sort of excitement in the celebrity world right now.

Deep Water premieres on March 18th on Hulu.
