Last night, the cast of the 1987 classic The Princess Bride reunited over video chat to perform a live-read of William Goldman’s deeply quotable script. Patton Oswalt played host while Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn, Carol Kane, Billy Crystal, and Christopher Guest reprised their roles. Director Rob Reiner filled in for the late Peter Falk, and Josh Gad, who has been hosting an array of reunions from lockdown, filled in for the late André the Giant. They didn’t just do this for funsies. The cast assembled to raise money for Wisconsin Democrats, offering a link for donations. In his introduction, Reiner told his virtual audience, “We’re here basically to get Donald Trump out of the White House so that’s the main goal.”
JS Online reports, “More than 110,000 people donated at least $1 each to tune into “A Virtual Princess Bride Reunion” on Sunday night, making the online event an inconceivable fundraising win for Democrats here.”
Considering The Princess Bride is beloved by a few web-savvy generations, Twitter rejoiced.
Honestly Rob Reiner is a perfect Peter Falk

I swear to god Robin Wright is aging on a different timeline than the rest of us. Her skincare regimen must involve unicorn tears or something.#PrincessBrideReunion

Cary Elwes’ moment with the mask was so funny and heartbreaking at the same time.

This was pure gold. @pattonoswalt is hosting so well and then Carol Kane, asked by Cary Elwes what kind of person President Trump is, and she gives the most perfect answer: “LIIIIIAAAAAAARRRRRR!!!!!!" #DumpTrumperdinck #PrincessBrideReunion pic.twitter.com/D1aWqm8bZ0

The moment. "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Delivered by @PatinkinMandy with every bit of the unforgettable conviction of the movie—a lifetime's fury packed into five seconds.
