I know I’ve previously said I’m “over” exorcism movies, but Lee Daniels has reunited with Mo’Nique to bring us The Deliverance later this summer and they’re bringing Andra Day (Exhibiting Forgiveness) and Glenn Close along for the ride. This is no canoe trip through Appalachia, and there are no dueling banjos.
The Deliverance premieres on Netflix on August 30th.
Mother’s Instinct is based on a novel by Barbara Abel, considered to be the “queen of Belgian crime,” which means I have some books to add to my TBR. The film, starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, is about two young families impacted by a terrible tragedy and how two friends, who are mothers, must learn to live with each other afterward.
Mother’s Instinct also stars Josh Charles, Anders Danielsen Lie (The Worst Person In The World), and Caroline Lagerfelt. It’s directed by Benoît Delhomme, the cinematographer on At Eternity’s Gate.
It opens in select theaters in the U.S. on July 26th.
Naomie Harris and Natalie Dormer star in the upcoming thriller The Wasp, which answers the question I was asking myself the other day: Where has Natalie Dormer been? She’s been busy plotting murder.
The Wasp is directed by BAFTA Award winner Guillem Morales and also stars Dominic Allburn (Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries), and Rupert Holliday-Evans. It opens in theaters on August 30th.
During my period of extensive unemployment last year, I had a lot of free time to watch whatever I wanted. Naturally, I dove into the world of horror movie franchises. What? You thought I was going to go high-brow? Did you know there are sixteen (16!!) movies with “Amityville” in the title? There are ten Children Of The Corn movies and five in The Prophecy franchise, two released in the same year (2005). None of them make much sense after the first one. I’m not sure if anyone expected the Hell House LLC franchise to reach a fifth installment, but there’s precedent, is what I’m saying.
