Before you get too bent out of shape, it’s not that kind of movie. There are no rectangular shapes played by real people, nor any attempt to create a narrative out of a game without one.

This is about how an American (Taron Egerton) and a Russian computer geek (Ben Miles) form an unlikely friendship as they try to evade the KGB and smuggle the world’s most famous video game out of the Soviet Union so that it could be installed on Nintendo’s Game Boy. I did not know that Tetris originated in the Soviet Union. There’s a fascinating history to the game, and it appears that the movie only focuses on one chapter of that history. But it looks compelling, all the same, and I’m always game for a Taron Egerton performance.

Tetris will stream March 31 on Apple TV+.
