The 'Paddington in Peru' Trailer: How Do You Follow the Perfect Movie?

The first Paddington had a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Somehow, that same team managed to improve upon that with Paddington 2, a perfect film, although it only has a 99 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes because of two critics who should be embarrassed of themselves: Justin Brown at some podunk podcast-only outlet, and even he describes himself as “dead inside,” which is abundantly clear; and Eddie Harrison at some outlet called film-authority.com, who reviewed it four years after its release and called the bear himself “over-confident, snide, and sullen,” and used the actual phrase, “this ain’t yo mamma’s Paddington bear” in his review.

This is why the democratization of movie reviewing is bad. It took me years to get into Rotten Tomatoes — in fact, they only admitted me after I stopped trying — and now they’ll let anyone with a podcast in or someone who earnestly writes “this ain’t yo mamma’s Paddington bear.”

Paddington 2, notwithstanding the trolling, voided souls from “Medium Popcorn” and “film-authority,” is a perfect movie. It does not need a follow-up, yet I would love to see if they can perfect perfection. Casting Olivia Colman is a good start. Antonio Banderas doesn’t hurt, either. It’s hard to say, however, whether either is the villain or if the Amazon is the real villain this time out.

Here’s the trailer. If this is not reason enough to go to the theaters, nothing is.

Paddington in Peru hits cinemas on November 8th.
