I’ll concede that I did not love Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, mostly because it felt a little repetitive, we already knew the contours of Haymitch Abernathy’s story, and it was bleak. But I am nevertheless into the trailer, in part because of the cast.

First and foremost, they found the perfect guy to play a younger Plutarch Heavensbee (played originally by Phillip Seymour Hoffman): Jesse Plemons. That’s solid casting. Joseph Zada (We Were Liars) is a good Haymitch, and I love Elle Fanning for Effie Trinket and Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman. But also, get a load of Glenn Close as Drusilla Sickle in the teaser. That’s just straight-up full-on bonkers. She’s clearly having a blast.

Here’s the teaser:

The cast also includes Ralph Fiennes (President Snow), Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, and Whitney Peak. The movie covers the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, the one that we already know Haymitch Abernathy won. But the consequences of that win are what make the novel so bleak.

The movie hits theaters a year from today, on November 20, 2026.
