I adore ridiculous movies. There’s no better sick day remedy than a bowl of phở and a fun, cheesy story no deeper than a heat mirage that’s still entertaining. Many of them are Disney properties, but not all. Flight of the Navigator. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Sahara. The Fifth Element. Both the original Jumanji and the reboot. I am always at home for a movie with wisecracking heroes scraping through impossible situations by the skin of their teeth.
This is the niche Ryan Reynolds calls home. Sometimes they’re wild successes, like Detective Pikachu, Deadpool, and Free Guy. Sometimes they’re Red Notice. His latest attempt, The Adam Project, comes to Netflix this March and the preview suggests it’s true to form.
Joined by Mark Ruffalo, Catherine Keener, Zoe Saldana, and Jennifer Garner in full Mom Mode, The Adam Project tells the story of young Adam (Walker Scobell, a young clone of Freddie Highmore) who is very confused when his older, scruffy self (Reynolds) shows up in a time-traveling spaceship. They go on a mission to hunt down his (their?) deceased father and are attacked by… time pirates, maybe? I’m not sure, because for the first time ever Netflix has released a trailer that doesn’t give away the entire plot. Good job, guys.
The Adam Project premieres on March 11, only on Netflix.
