After many years of pushing back against allowing their films digital releases, Studio Ghibli has announced that their back-catalog of animated features will be available globally on Netflix from February! 21 Ghibli movies will drop on the platform and audiences worldwide — except for the U.S., Canada, and Japan — will be able to watch them as many times as they desire.
From February 2020, 21 films from the legendary animation house Studio Ghibli are coming exclusively to Netflix.

In a prepared statement, Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki said:
‘In this day and age, there are various great ways a film can reach audiences. We’ve listened to our fans and have made the definitive decision to stream our film catalogue. We hope people around the world will discover the world of Studio Ghibli through this experience.’
For North Americans who want to stream Ghibli, you’ll have to subscribe to HBO Max once it drops, as they acquired exclusive U.S. streaming rights to the entire back-catalog several months ago. That streaming service will launch this Spring.
