I feel like the production on Mowgli and Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book ramped up simultaneously because I recall seeing casting notices for both films around the same time. In one, Idris Elba plays Shere Khan, and in another, Benedict Cumberbatch plays Shere Khan.

Serkis’s film clearly hit a hitch, because Favreau’s version was released to stellar reviews and huge box office back in 2016. Now, Serkis’s version is heading to theaters, and we finally get to see the first trailer for it. And, uh: I couldn’t take my younger children to Favreau’s The Jungle Book, and I worry that I won’t be able to take my older son to this one.

Wow. That is dark. I guess to differentiate itself from Favreau’s live-action Jungle Book, Serkis decided to make a horror film.

In addition to Cumberbatch, the film also features the voices of Christian Bale, Naomi Harris, and Cate Blanchett, while Matthew Rhys and Freida Pinto will play real folks in Mowgli.
