Who doesn’t love Meg Ryan’s legendary fake orgasm scene in When Harry Met Sally? Answer: Her kids. Um. Fair.
Meg is out there promoting her upcoming rom-com, What Happens Later, so she sat down for a chat with Carol Burnett for Interview magazine. 90-year-old Carol asked Meg if she had to do multiple takes for her “famous orgasm scene”, and the 61-year-old replied that she “probably did that over and over and over again.” Then she shared this anecdote about her kids, 31-year-old actor Jack Quaid and 19-year-old Daisy True Ryan:
It’s funny, my son just called me this morning and he’s in New York staying at a hotel that’s right across the street from Katz’s Deli. My daughter was here and everybody was on speaker, and they were like, “Mom, this is a very unique embarrassment.” [Laughs] He said, “You know you can go into that deli and there’s an arrow pointing down to the table where you shot that scene.”
Back in 2019, Jack told InStyle that he’d put off watching When Harry Met Sally for years:
“It’s one of those things, where if you really think about it, you don’t want to see your mom having a fake orgasm in a deli when you’re growing up. I avoided it.”
Eventually, Jack watched the iconic rom-com, and realized, “the movie’s so much more than that scene.” Afterward, he called his mom “sobbing” to tell her how proud he was of her performance. Meg’s response? “Ah, cool!” No word on if he ever watched dad Dennis Quaid’s creepy sex scene with Winona Ryder in Great Balls of Fire? “You don’t move like no virgin!” *shudder*
Even though When Harry Met Sally is my favorite romantic comedy movie of all time (it’s a tie with Magnolia), it’s totally understandable that Meg’s kids are embarrassed by her faux-O. Your parents being famously sexy: one of the few drawbacks of being a Hollywood nepo-baby.
