Some projects defy explanation. Howard Hughes’s Spruce Goose. Zuckerberg’s Metaverse. Peepsi. Add to that list a sequel to Kevin Hart and John Travolta’s Die Hart, a Quibi series repackaged into a Roku movie that is getting a sequel for reasons known only to god and studio executives. It doesn’t look good.
Die Hart 2: Die Harter, a title that makes me flinch every time I type it, appears to be packaged as a season rather than a movie. Whether each episode is as short as the original series — the whole thing added up to fewer than 2 hours — remains to be seen. Alongside Cena and Hart are Nathalie Emmanuel (The Invitation, Ramsey from The Fast & Furious franchise) and Ben Schwartz (The Afterparty, Parks & Rec), both of whom deserve better.
I don’t think I know anyone who watched the original. For those who did and want more, Die Hart 2: Die Harter premieres on the Roku channel on March 31.
