I’m not going to pretend to understand the mechanics of time travel, or space travel for that matter, I’m no rocket scientist after all. But Lucy Boynton’s (Sing Street) character in the trailer for Searchlight Pictures’ The Greatest Hits manages to time travel via song and that feels more implausible than all of the other methods. Maybe the sound of Nelly Furtado’s voice or Robert Smith’s lyrics to “Friday I’m In Love” create the perfect sound waves for time traveling. Maybe the power has been in Maxell Cassette tapes all along.
The Greatest Hits also stars Justin H. Min (The Umbrella Academy), David Corenswet (Pearl) and Austin Crute (They/Them). It will be released in select theaters on April 5th and will begin streaming on Hulu on April 12th.
Someone has to have a joke about shooting Jennifer Lopez into space. Or maybe it wrote itself. Director Brad Peyton (San Andreas, Rampage) has abandoned The Rock in favor of Jenny From The Block for his latest project, ATLAS.
ATLAS premieres on Netflix on May 24th and also stars Simu Liu (Barbie), Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), and Mark Strong (the Kingsman movies).
We’re about to find out if the world wants Jennifer Hudson to be an action star in Stefon Bristol’s (See You Yesterday) upcoming Breathe. In it, Hudson stars as a wife and mother living in a future where the dwindling air supply forces her and her daughter (Quvenzhané Wallis) to fight for survival.
Breathe also stars Common, Milla Jovovich, Sam Worthington, and Raúl Castillo. It will premiere in theaters, on digital, and On Demand on April 26th.
Let us leave space and time and go now to the beach, where we’re more familiar with the horrors that await us in the depths. Shark movies never go out of style! This week’s lagniappe, Something In The Water, is about a destination wedding where everything goes wrong for six women when they decide to head out for a fun day on the water. I want to feel bad for them, but I’ve got a whole “eat the rich” vibe going on right now, and anyone who can afford a wedding trip like this should probably be eaten by a shark.
