Does anyone remember The One I Love, the terrific Mark Duplass/Elisabeth Moss twisty psychological mindf*ck from back in 2014? It’s a fantastic movie, but that’s all I want to say about the film because I wouldn’t dare want to spoil it, and the less you know, the better.

I don’t know yet if that extends to Windfall from the same writer and director, Justin Lader and Charlie McDowell, respectively. The locations look very similar (both movies are set in Ojai, California, although after examining both trailers, it doesn’t appear to be the same house). This one is about a couple — played by Jesse Plemons and Lilly Collins — who walk in on a robbery of their house by a character played by Jason Segel. It appears that things do not go well … for the robber, who dared to pick on a rich white guy (Plemons: “Try being a rich white guy these days!”).

The movie is described as a Hitchcockian thriller, and it looks terrific (and modestly funny, to boot). If Netflix is going to raise their subscription rates, I’m gonna want to see more content like this.

Windfall streams on Netflix on March 18th.
