What Do We Know So Far About Tom Cruise's Comedy, 'Digger'?

Not much, as it turns out. Yesterday, Warner Bros. released a teaser for Digger, a comedy starring Tom Cruise directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who is making his first English-language film since 2015’s The Revenant. Here’s the teaser, which basically gives away nothing:

And yes, that is apparently Tom Cruise in the teaser. Why does the silhouette of Tom Cruise look like Warner Herzog?

As for what we know about the film itself? Details are very scarce beyond the logline: “The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

That tells us nothing. But we do know the film also stars Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Burn Gorman, Sandra Hüller, and Emma D’Arcy. It’s weird imagining Cruise doing anything other than action flicks after a decade of mostly Mission Impossible films, but it’ll be nice to see if he can still actually act.

The film opens on October 6th, 2026.
