This was already the Internet’s worst-kept secret after the teaser leaked online, and now Marvel has finally officially released it: Captain America is returning to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday. With a baby and a wedding ring.
I’m not going to try and make sense of this in light of Robert Downey, Jr.’s return as a different character (Doctor Doom), or the fact that a lot of X-Men will be appearing in the film (Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Kelsey Grammer), as well as the cast of Thunderbolts and the new Fantastic Four, and the regular roster of Avengers.
At this point, we basically have to ask: Who is not going to make it into Doomsday? Wolverine, and the cast of The Eternals, though I would not be surprised to see Harry Styles make an appearance, because why not? If so, it might be the only surprise remaining when it finally comes out on December 18th, 2026.
Anyway, how’s Anthony Mackie feel about Captain America un-retiring?
