'Anyone But You' Trailer: Are Sweeney/Powell the Next Hudson/McConaughey?

I love romantic comedies, I am all for more theatrically released rom-coms, and I like both Glen Powell (Top Gun Maverick, Set It Up) and Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), and the director, Will Gluck (Easy A). In the trailer for Anyone But You — an update of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, Sweeney and Powell try and capture some of that opposites-attract intensity that Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey used to bring to rom-coms.

Word is there was a lot of real-life chemistry between Powell and Sweeney on set (and many rumors), but that chemistry apparently does not extend to this teaser. It’s short, but is it just me, or is Sweeney unusually wooden in it?

Maybe it’s just the way the trailer is cut together.

Here’s your synopsis, in case it’s not apparent from the trailer: “When college arch-nemeses reunite years after graduation for a destination wedding, they pretend to be a couple for their own personal reasons. But through pretending, they actually fall in love.”

Anyone But You hits theaters on December 22nd.
