Last December, while being forced to wear a suit to promote Uncut Gems and tour the Oscar circuit, Adam Sandler appeared on The Howard Stern Show and delivered a threat contingent upon receiving an Oscar nomination.
“If I don’t get it, I’m going to f**king come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay. That’s how I get them,” he told Howard Stern.
Sandler did not receive an Oscar nomination for Uncut Gems, and so he is here to make good on that threat, delivering to Netflix the Halloween comedy, Hubie Halloween. Here’s the trailer. Watch at your own peril.
Yup, that’s a bad Adam Sandler movie, alright. It has all the ingredients: Terrible made-up marginally offensive accent? Check! A bunch of Adam Sandler friends? Absolutely. Rob Schneider? You betcha! A love interest well beyond his station? Oh yeah! (Julie Bowen) Talented actors accepting purely paycheck roles? Check, check, and check (Maya Rudolph, Ray Liotta, June Squibb). Random sportsball star? Check! (Shaquille O’Neal) It’s basically Halloween Waterboy with a serial killer.
I guess that’ll teach the Academy to snub Adam Sandler, huh?
Hubie Halloween premieres October 7th on Netflix.
