Why Did Tom Cruise Backflip Into Kate Hudson’s Party at Goldie Hawn's House?

If you ever make the mistake of believing that stars are just like us I want you to remember the story I’m about to share with you the next time you pump your gas and think that maybe, just maybe, Barbra Streisand does the same. (Who, if you recall, has a mall in her basement just because she can.)

Oliver and Kate Hudson recently shared on Ellen about the time they threw a house party at their parents’ house and Tom Cruise came uninvited.

Only he came in the most over-the-top possible way, by scaling a wall and backflipping onto the property because that’s most certainly a thing normal people do.

I’ll let Oliver explain, via People.com because you know this is exactly the non-news they love to cover:

“I’m standing at the door making sure that people who aren’t supposed to be at the party aren’t coming in — there’s like 400 people at my parents’ house,” Hudson recalled. “I’m kind of freaking out a little and I see someone scaling, literally scaling, an eight-foot gate at my parents’ house. They come off and they do a back handspring and pose and I’m about to yell at this guy, and it’s Tom Cruise.”

Kate said she went over to greet the actor, who wasn’t invited but decided to come by because he “heard there was a party.”

If you want to hear it from the horses’ mouths, you can watch it here:

OK, so first off…that’s kind of weird, right? Does it smack of Wooderson, or am I wrong?

Since presumably, Kate and Oliver were in their late teens, early 20s when they were throwing these parties and Tom Cruise was not. Now, friends, I only have my younger self as a frame of reference, but I could not, at 35, hang with my 21-year-old self. She was a lot. It was a running joke that I would inexplicably get too drunk and lose a singular shoe on a night out. One shoe. It happened a lot to me, and I can’t explain how.

I used to be able to work my 9-to-5, go work my second job at a restaurant, get off at 9 pm, and party until 3, only to wake up at 7 to do it all over again.

Also, I was highly emotional, made very bad decisions, and drank as much as I possibly could—so the idea of hanging out with a bunch of younger people throwing a rager just makes my ears and my head hurt while I get ready for my 9 pm bedtime. Maybe that’s just me, though. I’m not a star, after all.

Anyway, Tom Cruise followed his heart that night, and ended up at Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell’s house and partied with her children and their friends. As for why he did a backflip onto the property after scaling a wall? I mean, isn’t the answer obvious? Because he could.
