Which Of Zendaya's Met Gala Looks Reigned Supreme?

Last night, fashion queen Zendaya and stylist Law Roach blessed the Met Gala with two three looks. But which was best? Do any of us even have the authority to declare a winner? No, no we don’t. And, please note, as I’m writing this piece, I’m wearing what can only be described as a “house dress,” no bra, no makeup, dripping wet hair, and a pimple patch on my chin. Let’s do this!

This year’s theme was The Garden of Time. In the museum, guests were invited to view the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibition, which celebrated fashion so fragile it can never be worn again (was it sponsored by Shein?).

For her first walk up the Met steps, Zendaya, 27, wore this gorgeous blue gown by Maison Margiela’s John Galliano, based on a 1999 Dior dress. It’s made of sage lamé worn over a duchesse satin corsage. There’s also a bunch of iridescent organza, a hand-embroidered corsage, and tulle, tulle, tulle! Zendaya paired the gown with a feather fascinator by Margiela’s Stephen Jones and bird earrings. The whole look is very “evil peacock fairy emerges from the sea”:

That pose! And check out her dramatic gothic makeup. I love it:

Zendaya surprise-debuted a second look near the end of the evening. And if you thought her first dress was dramatic…

Bam! A huge black gown with a huge black train! It’s a 1999 piece from John Galliano for Givenchy and includes a lace-up bodice, puffy sleeves, and a structured peplum hemline (with pockets). Zendaya and Law Roach added a pop of color with a flower headpiece designed by Philip Treacy for Alexander McQueen back in 2006. If we zoom in, you’ll see it’s a sideways bouquet, with the flower stems peeking out the “bottom.” Very cool:

Zendaya was one of the Met Gala’s official hosts, so she also made an onstage appearance at the dinner alongside celeb co-hosts Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny. This prompted another costume change, a glittery white Celia Kritharioti gown with a plunging neckline:

So, which gown comes out on top? As pretty as Look #3 was, it’s a distant third compared to Z’s dramatic beige carpet ensembles. Personally, I’m going with Look #1: Peacock Fairy. As striking as Look #2 is, I appreciated #1 the more I zoomed in on the little details. Also? My favorite color is blue. I know, I know; totally biased journalism. Sue me (please don’t sue me)!
