What Are You Doing with Your Life, Mary Elizabeth Winstead?

Mary Elizabeth Winstead was, at one point, the new IT girl, America’s Manic Pixie DreamGoth. Unfortunately, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was also supposed to be huge. It was not, nor were Live Free or Die Hard or A Good Day to Die or Winstead’s B-movies The Thing or Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (although 10 Cloverfield Lane was a modest success earlier this year, and she was fantastic in it).

Winstead has fallen into a kind of unfortunate wasteland of roles in below-the-radar television shows, like the American version of The Returned and Mercy Street on PBS. This summer, she’ll play the lead in BrainDead, a CBS comedy thriller from Robert and Michelle King, the duo behind The Good Wife.

It’s kind of a zombie comedy … ? She’s plays a staffer on Capitol Hill who discovers that alien bugs are eating the brains of politicians and turning them into zombie-ish people. It’s a metaphor!

There have only been two short TV spots for the series, which premieres in June for a 13-episode run. It looks admittedly amusing, and I will give anything with Mary Elizabeth Winstead a shot. Tony Shalhoub and Aaron Tveit also star.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead can also be seen in Daniel Radcliffe’s farting corpse movie later this year.
