It’s been two years since the passing of Chris Cornell, and the world lost one of the best voices in the history of music. Before he passed, however, one of the last songs he worked on was a song called “Far Away Places,” written by his then 12-year-old daughter Toni (above right), which he produced in his Miami studio.
Toni is now 15 years old, and that song is now being released, as it appears in a short film by a family friend, 17-year-old Tatiana Shanks, who is the daughter of Michael Shanks, who played Dr. Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1.
Here’s the single, which shows off Toni’s impressive voice.
Meanwhile, here’s a younger Toni with her father.
Meanwhile, here’s Chris and Toni performing “The Redemption Song” together a few years back at the Beacon in NYC.
If you aren’t weepy yet, here’s a duet of “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Chris and Toni that she released last year on Father’s Day.
Daddy,I love you and miss you so much. You were the best father anyone could ask for. Our relationship was so special, and you were always there for me. You gave me courage when I didn’t have any. You believed in me when I didn’t. I miss your love everyday. Recording this song with you was a special and amazing experience I wish I could repeat 100 times over and I know you would too. Happy Father’s Day daddy, nothing compares to you.
And now I will go silently weep in a corner for the rest of the day.
