What breakup? Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet made the ultimate power couple statement on the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie, Marty Supreme. They posed and went full PDA in their matching orange outfits. She wore statement diamond jewellery. He accessorised his suit with a ping pong paddle shaped bag, a reference to his new movie. It was tacky as hell and I love it.

Sorry, I know this is objectively a fashion crime but I think it rules. They both look gorgeous, they're committed to the bit, and it's memorable. It's Britney and Justin in matching denim all over again. Bring back matchy celeb couples dressing!

Timmy is working the junket circuit and soaking up a new cycle of acclaim, which many are predicting will land him his third Oscar nomination. He's made no secret of the fact that he's ambitious and wishes to be one of the great actors of his generation, and the work certainly backs it up. He's also not above a little red carpet fun. I often see some of Chalamet's more over-zealous fans -- you know the ones -- claiming that he's too good for Jenner or that he's too intellectual and classy to date a reality TV star. This crap is obviously weird and sexist and gets conspiratorial very quickly, but it also overlooks a key truth about their fave: Timothee is good at being famous and he clearly likes it. He knows how to give charming interviews, pose for photos, and schmooze with the right people. Here's a guy with a good working reputation and tons of industry allies in his corner. That's hard to accumulate if you're some sheltered bohemian who rejects celebrity in all its forms.

One of the reasons Chalamet is good at being famous is that he's able to compartmentalise his life and persona pretty effectively. He has this image as a serious artiste who works with auteurs and cares about his craft, but he's also a parting rap nerd who likes basketball and dates hot famous women. He's not unlike one of his idols, Leonardo DiCaprio, in that regard. So, it's weird to me to see tinhatters claim this is a disjointed vision of their idol or that it doesn't fit their version of him in their heads. Surely it's a good thing to be a well-adjusted guy who takes his work seriously but not himself?

And no, I don't think Kylothee is some PR stunt. I think they're two famous people who like one another, like fame, and are able to blend the two when the occasion calls for it. If they were a fake couple, you'd see them a hell of a lot more frequently in public than you actually do. Seriously, they lay low outside of his red carpet stuff. Is it so hard to imagine that Paul Atreides is into King Kylie?
