The Latest Celebrity Beef? Um, Jimmy Kimmel and Jerry Seinfeld
Jerry Seinfeld and Jimmy Kimmel are fighting over David Letterman. Minor spat between comedians, or the sexiest love triangle you’ve ever imagined? It’s the first one, but let’s go with the second one just for clicks and spank-bank fodder, you big freaks.
As you may have heard, Jimmy Kimmel will run a rerun the night of David Letterman’s final episode. He told the New York Times, “I have too much respect for Dave to do anything that would distract viewers from watching his final show. Plus, I’ll probably be crying all day, which makes it hard to work.”
Jerry Seinfeld, as is his wont, is not impressed.
“Why not put up a test pattern if you really want to respect the guy?” Seinfeld told Access Hollywood (via Salon). “I think TV Land put up a test pattern on the night of my [‘Seinfeld’] finale out of respect. That was a very nice gesture. That’s what I would do. That’s a real tip of the cap!”
Kimmel appeared on Howard Stern yesterday and addressed this, saying it made him feel bad and that he would have just put up a card that said “Go watch Letterman” if ABC would have let him (starts at 29 minutes, 25 seconds).
Kimmel’s biggest beef is actually with Billy Bush for being Billy Bush and totally turning coat from thinking it was a classy move to being firmly Team Seinfeld.
What we have here is, in the words of Dustin Rowles, “kind of a silly pissing match about who is the most gracious.”
Boys. Please. Let’s settle this the only way that matters. Dance-off.
