This morning, word broke that Sinead O’Connor had gone missing in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. I’ve lived in Illinois my whole life and had absolutely no idea she was living here too, at least part time. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Sinead O’Connor “has been located and is OK,” per the Wilmette Police.
Upon going missing on Sunday, she was reported as “missing suicidal.” Between the recent rash of social media outbursts and being sued by Arsenio Hall, O’Connor’s wellbeing had been something of concern to a lot of us. She attempted suicide in 1999 and 2012, and posted a suicide note late last year.
When people do outrageous things or say things that seem unhinged or nonsensical, the default for a lot of people is to laugh. People have laughed at Sinead O’Connor for a long time. Today she is safe. Let’s take a minute to remember that not everything is a joke.
