I don’t want to get too mired in the topic of Shonda Rhimes’ How to Get Away with Murder right now, because I have major issues with the show that having nothing to do with its progressiveness that I want to discuss in a separate post, but it’s hard not to appreciate how willing Shonda Rhimes is to go to the mat for the drama’s politics. Rhimes’ shows may wear may patience down, but the woman herself is incredibly cool (see, e.g., her appearance on The Mindy Project last week, where she honored and mocked both her and Mindy Kaling’s alma mater, Dartmouth).
Anyway, this week, Rhimes took an assole to task on Twitter for objecting to the show’s risque “gay scenes.”
. @Dabdelhakiem There are no GAY scenes. There are scenes with people in them.

. @Dabdelhakiem If u use the phrase "gay scenes", u are not only LATE to the party but also NOT INVITED to the party. Bye Felicia. #oneLOVE

Ok, tweeps. Someone got me all riled up and fighting 4 my friends and their love and the equality of all — I am supposed to be WRITING.

I love all you Tweeples. Even the ones who still need to grow. And remember that at some point, someone discriminated against you too.

I don't know why this kind of hate is out there. Ugh. #onelove. At least in Shondaland. Have a great rest of your weekend!

And that’s the kind of showrunner participation on Twitter we should all be applauding: Shaming bigots. Good for you, Rhimes. I wish your shows didn’t piss me off so much (for entirely different reasons).
