The first season of Sex/Life debuted back in June 2021. It had some novelty as a series that was essentially the streamer’s answer to Skinimax programming. I watched it. If you’re into watching Sarah Shahi or her now-boyfriend Adam Demos have sex, it might have been passable. But as scripted entertainment? It was terrible.

Somehow, the second season of the series was even worse than the first, which even the series’ star, Sarah Shahi, seems to concede on the Not Skinny but Not Fat podcast (via Variety):

“I’m not going to put it down, but I definitely did not have the support that I did the first season from the people involved in the show. It became a much different thing for me, and I’m not afraid to say that. I struggled with the material. I just felt the thing that it had the first season —- I mean, I’m never gonna work for Netflix again now after saying all this, but I can’t lie. And it was definitely a challenge.”

Shahi was also unhappy that she barely got to work with her boyfriend, Adam Demos. “He was a brilliant scene partner. Also, what ended up happening is I was working so much and he was working so little. He’s like, in 60 seconds of the entire thing. I never saw him.”

She also felt that whatever they did with the male stars was “gimmicky,” and that maybe she didn’t always get along or agree with the filmmakers. “I’m not always gonna like what I have to do or say. But that’s my job, to make it believable.”

Season three of Sex/Life has not been ordered, and it seems unlikely. Shahi has plenty to fall back on. She’s starring in the forthcoming adaptation of Red, White, and Royal Blue and she is the lead in the upcoming ABC legal drama Judgement.
