Last night, Rosamund Pike was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes. She lost to Da’Vine Joy Randolph in The Holdovers. Yes, Rosamund was hilarious as the très posh, totally out-of-touch Elsbeth in Saltburn, but Da’Vine’s performance as grieving mom Mary was on a whole other level. She deserved the win.
On the red carpet, 44-year-old Rosamund showed up wearing a vintage Dior couture dress and a matching black face veil, which she described as “a little English creativity in the form of Philip Treacy.” Philip is the legendary Irish milliner known for creating hats and fascinators for the Royals. See: Princess Beatrice’s “pretzel hat” at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding.
But Rosamund’s face covering wasn’t just for fashion; she told Variety’s Marc Malkin it was “a protective veil for the occasion.” The actress explained that she “smashed up” her face in a ski accident on December 26:
Well, I had an accident over Christmas, actually. I had a skiing accident. You know, not what you want knowing you’re coming to the Golden Globes on the 7th of January. So, on the 26th of December, my face was entirely smashed up. And I thought, ‘I need to do something.”
Rosamund added that her face had since “healed”, but she still wore the veil. Hmmm, maybe she asked Philip Treacy to make it for her when her injuries were still fresh, and then felt bad ditching it when she got better.
The interviewer joked that Rosamund’s look was “very Saltburn”. She replied:
Well, you know, you have to channel it, don’t you? Either a weird funeral vibe. Or maybe she [Elsbeth] wore black to her wedding.

Here’s Rosamund’s full look. I love a tea-length dress, so much easier to walk around in:
Rosamund took off her face veil when she got inside. Here she is with Pedro Pascal, who also sustained an injury after a fall (someone is trying to kill our hottest celebrities!):
Like Rosamund said, her face seems healed. No sign of any bruising or Phantom of the Opera-style scarring. Still, she was probably insecure about how her face looked. It’s like when I have a pimple, cake a pound of makeup on top of it, and assume every single person I encounter is staring at the small mountain on my chin. Look away! I’m hideous!
