We cover politics and celebrity gossip here, but it’s rare for the two to intersect. Unfortunately, they do so now under less-than-happy circumstances. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre—the first openly gay person to hold that position—has separated from her longtime partner, former CNN anchor Suzanne Malveaux, as she revealed to Vogue magazine.
“I’m a single mom who is co-parenting this amazing kid,” Jean-Pierre told the magazine, acknowledging their split. “Our number-one priority is her privacy and creating a nurturing environment.”
Jean-Pierre did not offer further details on the breakup. The D.C. power couple had been together since 2012, meeting at the Democratic National Convention. Jean-Pierre first saw Malveaux across a dance floor during a donor party in a nightclub. Two years later, they moved in together and soon after adopted their daughter, Soleil.
The relationship between Malveaux and the Press Secretary stirred some ethical questions, particularly about a Press Secretary dating a CNN anchor. Malveaux left CNN in January of this year.
