Oasis Are Now Bigger Than The Beatles (In One Country)

The Gallagher brothers of Oasis have made no secret of the fact that they are hardcore fans of The Beatles. It was a running joke for decades in the UK that Oasis was the most successful Beatles tribute act in history. Well, the student has now become the master. Their second album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? has officially overtaken the biggest-selling album by the Fab Four.

The Official Charts Company revealed that the 1995 album, which includes mega-hits like “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger”, is now third on the all-time best-sellers list in the UK. That means it’s leaped over Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. In total, the Oasis album has sold over 6.2 million units in its homeland, which counts for both sales and streams. For anyone who is curious as to which albums are more popular than Oasis in the UK: the top two spots are held by Queen’s Greatest Hits and ABBA’s Gold. I get it. My family had both of those albums.

It’s no surprise that Oasis is having a moment. Their reunion tour last year was a very big deal and a massive earner for the band. With grosses of over $405.4 million and attendance of around two million fans, it was the second-highest-grossing and third-most-attended tour of 2025 (the number one tour was Beyoncé, which, you know, fair.) “Wonderwall” was one of the favourite songs of England fans during this Summer’s World Cup. Oasis are also still wildly influential, especially in terms of UK rock. I certainly can’t think of a period in my 36 years on this planet where their songs haven’t been prevalent in some way or another. And I’m not even a fan!

(What’s the Story) Morning Glory? is also considered one of the biggest selling albums of all time, with a reported 11.6 million sales (but claims that it could be as high as 22 million.) That would put them above Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here. But, of course, the biggest album ever remains Thriller, with a reported 51.4 million sales.
