I am going to come clean here, I really like the song “Super Bass.” Like, a lot. I think it’s really catchy, good to run to, and sometimes gets stuck in my head. As a result, I am mildly interested in Nicki Minaj’s career, even though she has not hit such great heights again since 2010 when that song was released.
…and now she probably never will, because guess what? She’s over *gestures wildly* all of this, OK?
Yup, that’s right, Nicki Minaj is retiring and taking the unreleased spiritual successor to “Super Bass” with her.
How do I know this? Nicki told me personally (and everyone else in the world) via a Tweet:
I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, ❌ in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. ✅ Love you for LIFE 😘♥️🦄— Mrs. Petty (@NICKIMINAJ) September 5, 2019
I mean, look, I get it. If ’80s hair-rocker music videos taught me anything, it’s that life on the road is very hard. In case you missed it, here’s Bret Michaels reiterating that point.
That seems fun, but also mentally taxing, doesn’t it?
Sure, having a family will also be mentally taxing, but in a different way. One that doesn’t always require a full face o’ makeup, your hair styled, and clothes that don’t have elastic waistbands.
What does this mean for Nicki fans, whom she encouraged to keep “reppin” her? Sadly, probably no more Nicki concerts for them. But I do have good news—the band above that just illustrated how hard life on the road is, is going to go on tour next year. Yes, that’s right, Poison is back!
Life gives and life takes—perhaps Nicki fans may enjoy a little Bret Michaels to soothe their broken hearts. Poison is, after all, nothing but a good time.
Play us out, Bret.
