This weekend I attended Awesome Con in DC. I’ve got a lot more details coming soon, but for now we’re going to stick with Michael Rooker here. This was not Michael Rooker’s panel. This was supposed to be Dave Bautista’s solo panel. Apparently, Dave Bautista had assumed that he was doing this panel with Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker since they were all in town for the convention, and found it strange that he was supposed to do a whole panel himself. Dave Bautista is a delightful human being like that. But they went ahead and brought out Sean Gunn midway through and everyone was having a nice chat. Part of that nice chat was commenting on how if Michael Rooker was there he would take over the whole panel. And then Michael Rooker showed up and… took over the whole panel. Starting with telling Dave Bautista how to hold his mic closer to his face but not SO close that it covered his mouth in pictures, to teasing Sean about his brother’s habits on set, to absolutely annihilating the audience Q&A line. If you have ever moderated a panel, or listened to a line of people who seemed to have no Qs to A, then you will recognize the following three minutes as the thing of beauty they are:
I am aware that I filmed this in portrait mode. Here’s the thing, I don’t care. When Michael Rooker shows up five feet behind you and starts yelling at people in glorious fashion, maybe you’ll remember to turn your phone over. Or maybe you won’t! Who knows.
