The only upside of people saying bad things about you is that it often brings others to your defense. We’ve seen this incredible outpouring for Rob Reiner and his wife in the wake of their deaths, for instance. And when Trump disparaged Reiner, the blowback was fierce on both sides of the political spectrum, really (even James Woods tearfully celebrated Reiner on Fox News last night). Likewise, Ethan Hawke — and many others — came to Paul Dano’s defense after Quentin Tarantino called him out last week, noting how many people had praised him as a person and an actor.
But often, the people we want to say nice things about us the most are our own children. And you know you’re a good Dad when your daughter takes to Instagram to publicly praise you, because some daughters want you to drop them off around the corner from school so you don’t embarrass them in front of their friends. Matthew Lillard’s daughter, Ace - defending her father from the unnecessary shade thrown by Quentin Tarantino - just let her Dad drive her straight to the front doors of that school, got out of the car, and told everyone in the world, “This is my Dad, and he’s my hero!”
Matthew Lillard is a good actor (forget everything you know him best from and watch him on The Bridge. He’s outstanding). He’s also clearly a good Dad, too, who raised a loving daughter. Bonus, he got a nice paycheck from Ryan Reynolds out of all this.
