Men have never been able to act normal around Margot Robbie. The actress has been the subject of so much creepy leering since she broke through in Hollywood. Remember that creepy Vanity Fair that talked about her like she was an exotic alien because she was from Australia? Like I said, weird stuff. Well, it turns out that Robbie’s been dealing with this crap for her entire career, long before she became a household name in America (shout out to my fellow former Neighbours fans!)

In an interview with Complex, Robbie sat down with Charli XCX to promote ‘Wuthering Heights’, which premieres this Friday. She revealed to Charli that, ‘very, very early in my career,’ an actor negged her by ‘gifting’ her a diet book called French Women Don’t Get Fat. ‘It was essentially a book telling you to eat less. And I was like, f**k you, dude! He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight. I was like, ‘wow.”

I, too, was like, wow. But also, I wasn’t surprised? Sadly, literally every woman I know, regardless of her size or health, has been berated for their weight at some point in their lives. You’re always too fat in the eyes of some chinless jerk who thinks he’s God’s gift to genetics.

French Women Don’t Get Fat is a fad diet book from 2004 that tried to sell the idea of French femininity as a hyper-skinny chic lifestyle that anyone could attain through a few changes. Its big ‘secret’ was mostly denying yourself food because nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. The podcast Maintenance Phase did a great episode on its hyper-privileged, body-shaming bulls**t.

As for that loser who negged Robbie? ‘I have no idea where he would even be now,’ she said, suggesting he was an unknown who never became a star. ‘Your career’s over, babe!’ added Charli. Ha!
