Margaret Qualley is on red carpet duties for the latest Ridley Scott movie, The Dog Stars. She plays a medic in this dystopian thriller about life on Earth after a flu epidemic wipes out most of humanity. Her stylist must have wanted to style her in something with a post-apocalyptic chic vibe, all while obeying Qualley’s contract with Chanel. So, she sent her to the premiere in a gorgeous dress… and these shoes. Well, “shoes.”

Free foot pics? In this economy?

As a fashion girlie, I sometimes do wonder a few choices that these fashion houses put out.
And those "shoes" are one of them bc they cannot seriously be serious about this 😭
THAT IS BARELY HALF A SHOE EVEN!

Okay, so these are “barefoot sandals” by Chanel. The pun is the best thing about them. Designed by Matthieu Balzy as part of the brand’s 2027 resort collection, the heel caps leave most of your foot just hanging out there, touching the ground where literally anything could be lying. Don’t worry, though, because the Chanel logo is there to let people know that you can afford to buy real shoes and simply choose not to.

At least Qualley’s in a controlled environment where she doesn’t have to worry about broken glass or a dog pee puddle. They’re certainly a headline-grabbing piece of clothing, although one wonders if she finds herself gritting her teeth on a regular basis while dealing with this Chanel partnership. Clearly, these “shoes” are not for everyday wear. It’s Balzy having fun and seeing what he can get away with on a conceptual level. He’ll still charge you for them, of course. Luxury fashion is in a tough spot with this recession, so why not rage-bait? But oh man, you just know that so many influencers are going to get these and go on their matcha pilates walks through the city in them.
