Let’s take our gossip time machine back to 2002, shall we? 18-year-old Mandy Moore has made the transition from pop star to actress. She’s up in Canada, filming the teen rom-com (and future flop), How To Deal. Enter 19-year-old Andy Roddick, an up-and-coming tennis superstar. Mandy’s mother, Stacy, invites the athlete to meet her daughter on the How To Deal set. The next year, while promoting the movie, Mandy shares what happened next:

“About the last three weeks of the film, I meet this guy who completely just steals my heart. I’m so happy and crushing on him. I have mom to thank for that. Luckily, Andy obliged, accepted the invitation and came and met me on the set. I watched his tennis match the next day and the rest is history, I guess.”

Mandy and Andy (couple name: Mandy) ended up dating for about a year and a half. When Andy won the 2003 U.S. Open, Mandy was cheering him on from the stands. Alas, all (OK, most) early 2000’s It couples must come to an end. The pair split in March 2004. In 2018, Mandy told Howard Stern that Andy broke her heart, implying things ended due to his “wandering eye”. But she made it clear that she didn’t hold a grudge: “We were kids. I don’t care. Ten years ago, I would have had an axe to grind, but now I’m like, ‘Whatever.’”

After Andy, Mandy dated Zach Braff. In 2009, she got hitched to music creep Ryan Adams. The pair divorced in 2016, and, in 2019, she accused him of emotional abuse. Since 2018, she’s been married to Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith. They share two sons, August “Gus” and Oscar “Ozzie”.

After Mandy, Andy reportedly dated fellow tennis star Maria Sharapova. After that, a brief romance with Paris Hilton. In 2007, he met model/actress Brooklyn Decker. They got married in 2009 and had two kids: a son named Hank and a daughter named Stevie. Andy retired from tennis in 2012, at the ripe old age of 30.

Flash forward to present day. Something called Instagram now exists, and that’s where Brooklyn Decker posts a photo from her husband’s recent GQ interview. Andy is reflecting on his U.S. Open win on the 20th anniversary:

Then, in the comments of Brooklyn’s post, a totally unexpected Mandy Moore cameo! The now 39-year-old actress wrote, “I loved this article. Congrats on the 20th Anniversary of the Open!” Brooklyn’s response? “You’re a class act. You were a huge part of his life (and actually there [crying laughing emoji] during that time [heart emoji]”. Awww, women supporting women (supporting men).

But it didn’t end there. Mandy took to her Instagram Stories to share the article and this supportive message:

“Andy was a really formative part of my young adult life and although we’re not in touch, I was really moved by this article reflecting on the 20th anniversary of his US Open win and the kind of life he’s lead since, I’m so happy for him and his family. Congrats on this milestone, Andy!”

Now, Andy didn’t personally respond to any of this, because he doesn’t have Instagram. But if your wife publicly refers to your ex as a “class act”, surely there isn’t any bad blood. Which means we can now officially tie a lovely little unproblematic bow on these exes and enjoy them for what they were: a hot young famous couple of yesteryear.

Oh, and, if you’ve got roughly 18 minutes to spare, here’s Andy winning the U.S. Open exactly two decades ago while Mandy celebrates from the stands:
