I went and saw a double feature of amazing films last night: Jeff Nichols’ Loving and Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight, which ended with the God’s honest most romantic scene I may have ever seen in my life. Being in a movie theater for roughly 4 and a half hours, however, meant I missed a lot of news, all of which I caught up on this morning.
It was stupidly depressing. Trump’s back on tour, saying the same stupid sh*t he said during the campaign, complete with “lock her up” chants; Clinton and Trump aides sniped at each other during a forum rehashing the campaign; Trump’s cabinet is a disaster for Civil Rights, a disaster for poor people, and a disaster for any notion that America should be looked up to as an example for the rest of the world. Trump scammed America with that Carrier deal, but the media is still characterizing it as a public relations win; cops are shooting black people and getting away with it; white people are shooting cops and no one talks about it; and a white guy named Ronald (aren’t they all named Ronald?) shot and killed a black, former NFL player over an incident of “road rage,” which is the media’s euphemism of the day for racism. Oh, and they’re making a female-led 21 Jump Street spin-off … directed by a man.
Sometimes, when it all gets to be too much, you just want to watch Leah Remini and 50 Cent talk about how 50 Cent let Vivica A. Fox lick his ass, which led to speculation that he was gay, which led to an entire 2 minute discussion about ass licking on Watch What Happens Live.
