OK, with that out of the way, let’s talk about that play. Coming into last night’s game, the Kansas City Chiefs have been struggling of late, mostly because the only real playmaker Patrick Mahomes has to throw to is Travis Kelce, and everyone knows that, so they double-cover him. The Bills, meanwhile, have been struggling this season, as well, but have started to turn things around. They would need a win against the Chiefs to re-enter the playoffs conversation.

The Bills jumped to an early lead, 14-0, and then stalled out while Mahomes and the Chiefs slowly mounted their comeback. There were a few field goals involved, and with around two minutes left in the game, the Bills hit another field goal to pull ahead 20-17. For Patrick Mahomes, two minutes is plenty of time to score the game-winning touchdown or at least the game-tying field goal. And that’s exactly what Mahomes does: He engineers a huge comeback with one of the best plays of the year: A pass to Kelce, who tosses it back across the field to the notoriously brittle Kadarius Toney, who runs it in to complete a 50-yard touchdown to take the lead. Alas, the play doesn’t count because of an offsides penalty against Kadarius Toney. The Chiefs stall out, turn it over on downs, and the Bills win the game. Here, however, is Mahomes after the game. He Kermit flails and loses his shit over what he called an egregiously bad offensive offsides call.

Mahomes was such a baby about it that, instead of congratulating the Bills QB, Josh Allen, he complained to him about the call. “Lousiest fucking call I’ve ever seen … fucking terrible.” Josh Allen is just trying to say good game and get home to his girlfriend, Hailee Steinfeld; he doesn’t want to hear Mahomes bellyache.

But was it really a bad call? For those who don’t follow the NFL and are just here for the Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce photo, players are not allowed to line up in front of the football before it is hiked. If you have a toe across the line, the refs may let it go. But that’s not what this is. Toney is not almost across the line or barely across the line. Toney is practically lined up on the Bills’ side of the ball.
