With PEOPLE making it official that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage is on the rocks, the circus is live and operational. During a Mexico City press junket for Atlas on Wednesday, Jennifer Lopez snapped at a very bold reporter who went right for the big divorce question. But, first, Simu Liu beat JLo to the punch by shutting the question down.

“OK, we’re not doing that,” Liu said via Variety. “Thank you so much. We really appreciate it. Come on, don’t come in here with that energy.”

Lopez, however, put that noise on notice by reminding everyone in the room how these press junkets work, and it’s you do exactly what the stars and studios want or you get the hell out. “You know better than that,” Lopez said to the reporter.

You can watch the exchange below, and I dare your eyebrow not to raise at whatever Liu is trying to do here:

With that out of the way, you’ll be happy to know that the Ben and Jen divorce rumors are actually sparking some real journalism. And by real journalism, I mean asking Jason Mewes what he thinks about the situation. That’s right. The “Snoochie Boochies” guy who’s only tangentially connected to Affleck via Kevin Smith, but he was at the Bennifer 2.0 wedding, so close enough.

Anyway, Mewes would be “downright shocked” if they divorce, according to TMZ:

Jason expresses some frustration over people immediately jumping to split speculation … suggesting there’s probably a more practical explanation — most likely work-related — behind Ben moving out of their marital home.

He theorizes Ben might crave some peace and quiet to focus while filming for his new movie, free from the chaos of family life — or hey, J Lo might not be too keen on Ben’s film collaborators coming and going at their home.

Jokes aside, props to Mewes for taking a “both sides” approach because relationships are hard. Lainey Gossip has been hammering the misogynistic narrative that Lopez is the problem and a “nightmare.” I just want to state for the record that my inclination is that Affleck is almost definitely torpedo-ing this relationship by being a driftless layabout as most men are. (Hi, hello!) However, I’m also extremely open to the notion that they’re both pampered stars who are accustomed to having everything their way, and as we’ve seen countless times, a solid relationship that does not make.

In the meantime, I look forward to Zack Snyder cramming his face into this mess to promote the seven-week-long cut of Rebel Moon: The Scarchild of Fire in the Dark and Grim Planet of Wheat, So Much Wheat.
