Listen, we’ve all had a few embarrassing phases in our lives. I went through a phase in middle school when I wore a different color bow in my hair every day, for example. Or, you know, the eyebrows in high school were…a thing.
But whether it’s a phase or an Era, in Swiftie parlance, Marvel’s had more than most. I almost started a Gilmore Guys-style podcast once, where I started from the chronological “beginning” of the Marvel universe—a beginning that is hotly disputed, I’m sure—and watched everything and then talked about it with a superfan, but that didn’t happen because I have a busy life and things to do.
Anyway, I’m not the only one who can’t keep up with all the new shows and old callbacks and metaplots and microplots and reinventions. At a Comic-Con panel this week an interviewer asked Jamie Lee Curtis “which phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’re currently in,” and she simply answered “Bad.”

Curtis has previously aired her grievances against Marvel, especially when she was promoting Everything Everywhere All at Once, which opened at the same time as Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, joking that her movie “out marvels any Marvel movie they put out there.”
“I have nothing against Marvel as an entity. I’ve seen a lot of Marvel movies,” she later clarified. “What I was talking about is that ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ was a little movie that could…and we were able to tell a multiverse story that really touched people. What I was trying to talk about was it doesn’t have to be a Marvel movie in order to be a spectacle and to really move you.”
At the time she said she wouldn’t necessarily say no if Marvel came calling, but admitted she didn’t think they would now that she’d “kicked up some dust.”
If that was dust, this is mud. And I’m here for it!
